The Community Graduation program is a heartfelt celebration dedicated to recognizing the achievements of current and former foster youth who have successfully graduated from high school or college. Education is an invaluable asset that empowers individuals and opens doors to a brighter future. However, foster youth often face numerous obstacles in accessing the financial resources, mentorship, and guidance necessary to pursue higher education or vocational training.

Approximately 400,000 children and youth are in foster care anytime in the United States. Each year, around 20,000 of these individuals emancipate or age out of foster care. Tragically, only about half of youth raised in foster care manage to complete high school nationwide. Additionally, less than 5% can graduate from a four-year college, and only 2-6% successfully earn a degree from a two-year college. These statistics highlight the urgent need to support and celebrate the achievements of current and former foster youth in their educational endeavors.

The Community Graduation program aims to allow foster youth to commemorate their accomplishments alongside their peers. This special event is a time for celebration, joy, and community. Creating a supportive and inclusive environment honors these individuals' resilience and determination while fostering a sense of belonging and pride.

During the Community Graduation, participants can expect a range of engaging activities and ceremonies. The program will feature speeches from inspiring speakers who have overcome similar challenges, sharing their stories of success and encouraging the graduates. In addition, there will be opportunities for foster youth to connect with mentors, professionals, and community members who can provide guidance and support as they transition into the next phase of their lives.

The Community Graduation program recognizes the vital role education plays in shaping the future of foster youth. By acknowledging their accomplishments and providing a space for celebration, we aim to empower and motivate these individuals to continue pursuing their educational and career aspirations. Together, we can create a society that values the potential of every foster youth and ensures they have the necessary resources to thrive.

Join us in honoring the graduates and showing our support for current and former foster youth at the Community Graduation. Together, we can make a difference in their lives and contribute to a brighter and more inclusive future.
