Term: 3 years

Responsible to: Responsible to the entire Board, reports to the Board President

General Responsibilities:

  1. Overall governance of the agency by establishing and monitoring policies and programs and supporting the development and effectiveness of the Board of Directors. 

  2. Establish strategic purpose and direction for the agency by participating in regular strategic planning and monitoring performance toward the plan’s result. 

  3. Supervision of the Executive Director by hiring the Executive Director and monitoring performance toward the Executive Director’s general responsibilities and yearly objectives.

  4. Fundraising by planning and participating in securing necessary resources to support operations, programs, and services. 

  5. Represent the agency and its programs and services to stakeholders, including the community, funders, and clients. 

  6. Ensure the agency's financial health through conformance, up-to-date fiscal policies and procedures, and ongoing analysis of financial reports. 

  7. Ensure the adequate performance of the agency's programs through ongoing program planning and evaluation. 

  8. Ensure conformance to federal, state, local, and agency policies and procedures. 

Specific Duties: 

  1. Is a member of the Board. 

  2. Builds a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus. 

  3. Regularly attends Board meetings and important related meetings. Board members will not miss more than one meeting in a calendar year. In that case, the executive committee will review their continuation with the Board and bring them in for a meeting to discuss their continuation.

  4. Board members contribute a minimum of $400.00 annually to the nonprofit. 

  5. Makes serious commitment to participate actively in Board and committee work. 

  6. Volunteers for and willingly accepts assignments and completes them thoroughly and on time. 

  7. Stays informed about Board policies and committee matters, prepares themselves well for meetings, and reviews and comments on minutes and reports. 

  8. Volunteers in support of at least two fundraising events or two programming events during each session for at least six times to volunteer each calendar year.
